Sugar substitutes

I love sugar, aaaaall kinds of sugar.

I love chocolate, candy, ice cream, hot chocolate, Starbuck frappuccino, my French patisseries….

If only I could eat only sugar, bread and cheese, I would. In another world !

But that’s not the kind of diet to adopt. Overeating sugar creates inflammation, fragilizes your immune system, damages the skin and it doesn’t provide any benefit long term wise. 

Sooooo let’s try to keep the sugar level to its bare minimum. 

If you are like me go step by step to reduce the daily quantity and then make reductions weekly with little gestures. I think the most important change is to try not to add too much to your drinks, avoid sodas and choose good substitutes.

Here are my favorite sugar substitutes:  

  • Honey
  • Brown raw sugar 
  • Maple syrup
  • Coconut sugar
  • Organic stevia (not my favorite one but it’s an option) 
  • Monkfruit sweetener 
  • Erythritol (I get mine at Wholefoods they have a very good brand Swerve)

I use them to put in my teas, coffees but also when I cook my homemade pastries and cakes. 

To make your choice, consider different factors: the calories of the product, the form (liquid or powder), their composition, the health benefits but mostly the taste ! 

A sugar substitute is always better than industrial white sugar but they aren’t all equal .. and their taste is not the same. Nothing worse than putting sugar to your recipe and it damages the food.
